By this, I mean that we realize they aren\u2019t in the same place we are as a Christian or in our walk with the Lord. The issue at hand really isn\u2019t their sexuality or how they\u2019re identifying, but rather their need for Jesus Christ and living a life of holiness. Encourage trust by letting them know your feelings too. Tell them that you didn\u2019t realize they were wrestling with their feelings in these ways or that you don\u2019t understand but are willing to learn. Most of us can relate to those feelings at some level because of our backgrounds or experiences. While it can sometimes be counterproductive to share your beliefs about LGBTQ+ issues, it can also be problematic to withhold those beliefs. We want to be cautious about the way we demonstrate our love and concern, which is usually communicated through the words we choose and the tone of our voice.<br><br>You could offer a statement such as this: \u201cThank you for letting me be part of your life and for sharing something so personal and difficult for you. I may not agree with some of the conclusions you\u2019ve reached, but I do understand how you got there. Trust that God is working even when you don\u2019t see it.<br><br>Practice daily surrender \u2014 not once and done, but moment by moment: <em>\u201cLord, I give this to You.\u201d<\/em><br><br>Surround yourself with a supportive community who offers you discipleship and helps you stay accountable.<br><br>Living free is a process, not a one-time event. Freedom grows as you stay close to God, receive His grace, and choose daily to walk away from old chains.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-uagb-faq-child uagb-faq-child__outer-wrap uagb-faq-item uagb-block-93db19dc \" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"0\"><div class=\"uagb-faq-questions-button uagb-faq-questions\">\t\t\t<span class=\"uagb-icon uagb-faq-icon-wrap\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<svg xmlns=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" viewBox= \"0 0 448 512\"><path d=\"M432 256c0 17.69-14.33 32.01-32 32.01H256v144c0 17.69-14.33 31.99-32 31.99s-32-14.3-32-31.99v-144H48c-17.67 0-32-14.32-32-32.01s14.33-31.99 32-31.99H192v-144c0-17.69 14.33-32.01 32-32.01s32 14.32 32 32.01v144h144C417.7 224 432 238.3 432 256z\"><\/path><\/svg>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"uagb-icon-active uagb-faq-icon-wrap\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<svg xmlns=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" viewBox= \"0 0 448 512\"><path d=\"M400 288h-352c-17.69 0-32-14.32-32-32.01s14.31-31.99 32-31.99h352c17.69 0 32 14.3 32 31.99S417.7 288 400 288z\"><\/path><\/svg>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t<span class=\"uagb-question\">I have heard ex-gay leaders say that &#8220;homosexuality&#8221; is not about sex.\u00a0 What do they mean?<\/span><\/div><div class=\"uagb-faq-content\"><p>It is true that homosexuality is defined as &#8220;attraction to the same sex&#8221; and so appears to be about sex.\u00a0 However homosexuality is not sexual in its origin.\u00a0 To help you understand,\u00a0let&#8217;s change the subject to anorexia or bulimia.\u00a0 Anorexia and bulimia are mental strongholds that have little to do with food.\u00a0 A person who suffers from anorexia does so&#8211;not because of the lack of food, but because she (usually women suffer from this condition) is deceived by her thought processes.\u00a0 She looks into the mirror and convinces herself that she is fat.\u00a0 Emotionally, she cannot see the deception and so refuses to eat.\u00a0<br><br>Likewise, homosexuality is a stronghold that has little to do with sex.\u00a0 God created us male and female.\u00a0 However, homosexual thought, feelings, and behaviors can be traced to past negative or traumatic experiences or thoughts that precipitate sexual disorientation, causing individuals to believe a lie or deception.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-uagb-faq-child uagb-faq-child__outer-wrap uagb-faq-item uagb-block-17031799 \" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"0\"><div class=\"uagb-faq-questions-button uagb-faq-questions\">\t\t\t<span class=\"uagb-icon uagb-faq-icon-wrap\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<svg xmlns=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" viewBox= \"0 0 448 512\"><path d=\"M432 256c0 17.69-14.33 32.01-32 32.01H256v144c0 17.69-14.33 31.99-32 31.99s-32-14.3-32-31.99v-144H48c-17.67 0-32-14.32-32-32.01s14.33-31.99 32-31.99H192v-144c0-17.69 14.33-32.01 32-32.01s32 14.32 32 32.01v144h144C417.7 224 432 238.3 432 256z\"><\/path><\/svg>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"uagb-icon-active uagb-faq-icon-wrap\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<svg xmlns=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" viewBox= \"0 0 448 512\"><path d=\"M400 288h-352c-17.69 0-32-14.32-32-32.01s14.31-31.99 32-31.99h352c17.69 0 32 14.3 32 31.99S417.7 288 400 288z\"><\/path><\/svg>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t<span class=\"uagb-question\">I have a friend who is homosexual who does not believe that his background has anything to do with his same-sex feelings.\u00a0\u00a0He believes that he is \u201cnormal\u201d and that he was born with same-sex attractions.\u00a0\u00a0How do I convince him otherwise?<\/span><\/div><div class=\"uagb-faq-content\"><p>Thomas \u00e0 Kempis, a monk who lived in the 14th century and wrote the Christian classic,\u00a0The Imitation of Christ,\u00a0wrote the following words: \u201cBe not angry that you cannot make others as you wish them to be, since you cannot make yourself as you wish to be.\u201d<br><br>From time to time, I am accused of trying to \u201cchange\u201d people, and I think of Thomas \u00e0 Kempis\u2019 words.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0In truth, we cannot change anyone.\u00a0\u00a0Changing people is God\u2019s job.\u00a0\u00a0Our job is to love them, pray for them, be vulnerable about our own sins and the ways God has dealt with us, and challenge them to live in obedience to Christ\u2019s teachings.\u00a0<br><br>God is the only one who knows what is truly going on in this man\u2019s heart.\u00a0\u00a0The \u201cnormal\u201d your friend is experiencing comes from what makes sense to him about his life.\u00a0\u00a0We are often blind to our own reality and end up believing a lie our minds have led us to believe.
