James 3:16 When God delivered the tenth commandment on Mount Sinai, he added a sweeping conclusion to the simple beginning: \u201cYou shall not covet \u2026 anything that belongs to your neighbor\u201d Exodus 20:17). Why add anything? Maybe God wanted to emphasize that any desire can morph into envy, and envy opens the door to a parade of other sins: anger, bitterness, obsession, even murder. God yearns for His people to cultivate these habits, but often we\u2019re so focused on our hurt and difficult circumstances that we don\u2019t use these soul-healing tools. You may be thinking, She must be kidding. What is there to be thankful for in this mess? How can I praise God when I\u2019m in such pain? I\u2019ve had similar thoughts, but I chose to praise God anyway. I was amazed by its transforming power\u2014especially when I don\u2019t feel like doing it.
