Ever since Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh immortalized Margaret Mitchell\u2019s epic tale, millions of moviegoers have wondered how Scarlett O\u2019Hara could have resisted Rhett Butler\u2019s charm so long, then trampled on his heart so cruelly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-a90509a6f95ba2815f78a7af36decc89\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">And yet she did. For most of the story, Scarlett rebuffs Rhett\u2019s attempts to win her love. Then, when necessity compels her to accept his marriage proposal, she still remains blind to the depth of his love. Not until he reaches the breaking point and walks out on her does she recognize that she loves him\u2014too late, though, to reclaim what she lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-76437a2d77bdc23ee880d612707a14db\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">The love of one human being for another can die. And too often we transfer that human weakness to God. We assume that, like Rhett, God will grow tired of putting up with our resistance to His love and walk away from us\u2014never looking back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-caf72e60d48d084ad578b1a04f77b452\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">Yet the Bible proclaims again and again that God\u2019s love is eternal and unchangeable. Consider these verses:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f1dff21fd414f149635343d5ad615f47\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">\u201cThe steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end.\u201d Lamentations 3:22 (ESV)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-647e41966d536c0e0c795a478e5b9077\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">\u201cI have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.\u201d Jeremiah 31:3 (ESV)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8571f29f4c42d00a63512e897db676b5\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">Of course the greatest demonstration of God\u2019s love is Jesus\u2019 sacrificial death on the cross: \u201cBut God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us\u201d (Romans 5:8). Don\u2019t miss the key phrase \u201cwhile we were still sinners.\u201d God is fully aware of just how broken we are, and He loves us anyway. That\u2019s why He sent Jesus, and that\u2019s why Jesus was willing to come. There is no other way to mend our brokenness and restore our fellowship with Him but to admit our sinfulness and accept His gift of unconditional love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f392caf6bc56534d3f2f841f22c50fe9\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">This Easter I pray that God will reveal the depth of His eternal, unconditional love for you and your loved ones. He\u2019ll never walk out on you. He\u2019ll never abandon them.
