Is one\u2019s identity tied inexorably to his or her genetics and genealogy? Are we destined to be the product of our ancestors\u2019 genetics and parenting styles? Can we rise above bad parental examples?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg blog-link has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-38fe13b43e0b39f64e94040805aaeca1\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">I come from Polish and Indian roots. My family was deeply broken and full of pain. And, had I not met and married Mark Shick, who introduced me to my Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, I suspect I would have succumbed to those troubled family ties. But Jesus did help me to rise above. He made me a new person. He helped me see that identity is more an issue of the heart than of nature or nurture. When a person places his or her faith in Christ, He gives that person a new identity (see 2 Corinthians 5:17). Then He sends His Holy Spirit to enable that person to live up to that new identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg blog-link has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4b493e8bfa9c92f0bd1a8b950d8e69ba\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">As a new person in Christ, I\u2019m no longer the little mother, the confused confidant, the teen trying to find meaning in her looks, or even just a wife and mother (as wonderful as those last two are). I am Denise Shick, daughter of the Lord of the universe!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg blog-link has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-b374ec004e389d59957346af06ba6900\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; I am God\u2019s workmanship, created in Christ unto good works (Ephesians 2:10).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg blog-link has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5f249c8a1d2f4d0793af55e027484f9a\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; I am a joint-heir with Christ (Romans 8:17).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg blog-link has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1240582c4267f9226953f86735e510d6\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; I am delivered from the power of darkness and translated into God\u2019s kingdom (Colossians 1:13).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg blog-link has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-cc6dcde1c4c02cae8d3d35c9d72acf37\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; I am greatly loved by God (Romans 1:7; Ephesians 2:4; Colossians 3:12; 1 Thessalonians 1:4).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg blog-link has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-02f2a711eb776b9260299b4feaf6ce13\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; I am strengthened with all might according to His glorious power (Colossians 1:11).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg blog-link has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8eafc841914ef82a6803937b2c76e820\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; I am firmly rooted, built up, established in my faith, and overflowing with gratitude (Colossians 2:7).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg blog-link has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-88909f2f5fa8d23c8ddf0c51363e8047\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; I have the peace of God that passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg blog-link has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-e7ccd3a65e2be157f03abf2642964b74\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; I have no lack, for my God supplies all my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg blog-link has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4f3e2415ce5573ab141c70d770a2e646\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; I am forgiven of all my sins and washed in Christ\u2019s blood (Ephesians 1:7).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg blog-link has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-b40c7ff51d83b09cfdedbad9d065857d\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; I can do all things through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:13).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg blog-link has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-80c7ed9d2c1115fe8589d8b0d10913e0\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">What an incredible identity! What an incredible family! How would you like to have your identity as part of this family? If so, it\u2019s easy. Jesus made it clear that entrance into His family is simple. He said it like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg blog-link has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-798af347527fd15f972e4a3a62f248b9\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; \u201cFor God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son [Jesus], that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him\u201d (John 3:16-17).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg blog-link has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f737f5120838d9cb8210e44848fe8cba\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; \u201c\u2018I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die\u2019\u201d (John 11:25-26).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg blog-link has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7fe9735675174fe277206614610600e0\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; And when a terrified jailer asked the apostles Paul and Silas what he must do to be saved, the apostles answered, \u201cBelieve in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved\u2014you and your household\u201d (Acts 16:31).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"adobe-reg blog-link has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-d711ede91fda91e28cb387f37082021e\" style=\"color:#1a1a1ab3;font-size:18px;letter-spacing:0px\">If you have not done so, will you choose now to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ? Will you choose to become a son or daughter of the Lord of the universe? Will you choose to find your identity in Him?
