I was raised by a transsexual: Celebrating it is ‘insensitive’ – The Christian Institute
An author and family campaigner whose father lived as a woman when she was growing up has spoken out to say that all children need a mum and dad.
Denise Shick said that while society has acknowledged some of the issues around adult transsexualism, it has “not even begun” to consider the impact on children.
She commented that cultural celebration of transsexualism “is misguided and insensitive”.
Best for children
Shick made the remarks after President Obama expressed his support for transsexual people adopting children, in a presidential proclamation earlier this year.
In the UK there are no legal barriers to transsexual adoption.
Writing for the Daily Signal news website, Shick said: “The proclamation relates Obama’s latest thoughts on what’s best for LBGT adults. But what’s best for children?”
When My Father Told Me He Wanted to Be a Woman
When I was nine years old, my father told me he wanted to become a woman. I know I speak for others who have undergone similarly tragic childhoods when I say that I pray the Supreme Court will seriously consider the six amicus briefs submitted by the children of LGBT parents.

Once again she remembered the day her father took the then-9-year-old Shick to a grassy hill outside the house and said, “Denise, I want to be a woman.” She remembered all those times when her father rustled through her underwear drawer and sneaked into motels to cross-dress. Now as her father’s words echoed in her mind throughout the ceremony, Shick wondered if she would ever break free from this broken, twisted relationship with her father.

(LifeSiteNews) — State officials in Indiana admitted there was no abuse or neglect, but they still sought to remove a teen from his biological parents’ home because their religious beliefs conflicted with his preferred gender identity. Why? Mary and Jeremy Cox “would not refer to their son using pronouns and a name inconsistent with his biological sex.”
Although the state court found no evidence of abuse or neglect, the court ruled that the Coxes’ son should be placed “in a home that would affirm his preferred gender identity.”

— I’ll never forget the first time I heard of warlords such as Uganda’s Joseph Kony turning little boys into killer soldiers and little girls into sex slaves. My heart ached at the thought. It still does. It seemed like a horrible war movie — but it was real, with real children as casualties.
War is always horrible, but in some sad cases it is necessary. But children should be — to the greatest degree possible — shielded from violent conflicts. Whoever coined the phrase about sticks and stones breaking bones but words being harmless must have lived an isolated life. I’ve endured some painful physical events, not the least of which was giving birth. But some of the verbal attacks leveled against me have left emotional scars that still sting more than any physical scab.
Words matter; words are powerful. Words can harm or heal. Who hasn’t been the victim of verbal assaults such as gossip or of outright invective? But one can also fall prey to a subtler form of verbal abuse: inappropriate suggestion.
