Prior to directing Living Stones Ministries, I traveled many paths in my attempts to offer hurting families what became known as our Hope Gatherings. No matter how difficult it seemed to find a church willing to host a conference for family members of transgender and homosexual loved ones, I learned to persevere and not give up.

I’d like to share with you one of many stories that demonstrate God’s faithfulness to our ministry. This one is related to our upcoming Fearless webinar.

As I searched for a host church in 2015, I discovered many leaders either never called me back after I asked if their church would host a Hope Gathering or responded with a “no” to hold the event at their facility.

After calling many, many churches in Texas and nearing the end of my church list, I finally heard back from a pastor who added to my list of nos, but he graciously suggested I call City on the Hill church, better known as the Hospital Church.

The pastor of City on the Hill at the time, Dr. James Reeves, was immediately interested and supportive of offering a family conference for those in his church and community with loved ones identifying as LGBTQ. God was on the move.

I was amazed when I first visited this church. It offers programs to help just about anyone you can think of. This congregation doesn’t shy away from any type of brokenness or hurting people.

Over the last 8 years, City on the Hill and I have developed a wonderful, trusting relationship. When I’m in the Dallas area and visit the church, I always feel at home. They have hosted two Hope Gatherings in the past and will host a 2023 conference next year.

As you can tell, I respect this church’s leaders and deeply appreciate each person there. When Dr. Reeves asked a few years ago if I’d participate in his Fearless Series for Women that addresses women being sexually abused, I was honored. I already knew Dr. Reeves had a heart for the broken, and I respected him for taking interest in the desperate need for a program to help women who have been sexually abused.

When Venessa Elswick, the Director of Women’s Life Change, invited me to attend a women’s conference to promote our children’s series, I was thrilled that a church wanted to showcase our ministry’s children’s book series. I was blessed to visit again with Christy Martinez, a woman who gave her testimony at one of our conferences and served as the Assistant Chief of the Grand Prairie Police Dept. of Texas. I also met Gwen Jones from ARISE International for the first time. All three of these precious women were a part of the Fearless Series for Women.

During this time together, we discussed the possibility of holding a webinar that would highlight Venessa’s work with women, give people an opportunity to meet Christy and Gwen, and provide a Q&A.
